Despite its mini price of € 44, this printer / scanner Canon Pixma MP230 print at correct speeds. Its software also looks pretty interesting.
To refresh its family multifunction printer Pixma MP, Canon giant printing has announced the imminent arrival of the Canon Pixma MP230, a more economical model than its predecessors but enjoys the same attractions, with some advantages as a bonus. In short, a machine that fits very personal – because of its low cost and simplicity – for family use (print cards, calendars, pictures, etc) and will also cater for students to print their reports and theses.
Efficient and cost
Nothing wrong side design of the Canon Pixma MP230 retains the elegance of its predecessors with a matte black plastic shell with rounded shapes. Apart from this criterion of aesthetics, the MP230 is distinguished mainly by its low price (less than 45 €) and its performance. The manufacturer announced in effect a rate – according to standard ESAT, whose values are generally quite close to those obtained in practice – to 7 ppm black and 4.8 ppm color. Just as he announced only 40 seconds to print a color photo of 10 x 15 cm.
Really basic equipment
Alas, the Canon Pixma MP230 also differs by more than an equipment summary, which has neither color screen or memory card reader or USB port for easy PictBridge direct printing without a PC from a USB stick or a camera. Are indeed present a few lights and buttons to control the printer. It is the same for connectivity. It must rely on a single USB 2.0 interface to connect to the computer (no Ethernet or WiFi).
For the rest, note that the printing system FINE uses two cartridges (black and three colors) , it offers a resolution of 4800 dpi and Canon Pixma MP230 printer teamed up with a color CIS scanner with an optical resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi. This duo offers the functions of printing, scanning and photocopying. It takes 14 seconds to scan an A4 color page and about 30 seconds to obtain a photocopy. Other characteristics include the presence of a tray of 100 sheets and the lack of an automatic duplex printing.
An innovative software suite
Due to the lack of Wi-Fi network connection, you must quickly forget the printing and scanning photos and documents using a smartphone. That said Canon Pixma MP230 catches up with a new software suite includes Easy-WebPrint EX (print optimization of web pages), Full HD Movie Print (printing images from a Full HD 1080p) and Scanning Utility (Character Recognition or OCR). The MP230 is also one of the first new machines Pixma platform to integrate My Garden Image containing all software designed for the Canon Pixma printers, with a single interface announced as simple and intuitive. Thanks to its compatibility with Canon’s new Facebook app “Print Your Days”, sending and printing photos from Facebook are greatly simplified. This application can also create montages of photos (up to 5 pictures) and place them at leisure with a wide variety of styles before printing. To limit consumption, Canon Pixma MP230 is equipped with the system of power up and power off. Moreover, it also announces a consumption of only 10 watts in operation and 0.6 watts in standby mode. Although the MP230 is not particularly noisy (44.7 dB announced), the manufacturer has provided a silent mode that lowers the noise level a few decibels. Alas, it also reduces by half the speed. We must therefore choose between speed and silence.
